Do you have a seam in your carpet that is coming loose? You may want to try to fix it yourself with this easy, low cost fix. It is worth a shot before you shell out the dough to have it fixed.

Tools Needed:

Before we begin with the steps to fix the seam, let us take a look at how the carpet was most likely joined together.

Heat tape is a strip of reinforced paper that has been coated with hot melt glue. The heat tape is placed in the center of the two carpet pieces, running the length of the seam. A special iron is then heated to a high temperature and when placed on the heat tape, melts the glue. The iron is moved along the length of the heat tape melting the glue as both pieces of the carpet are then laid into the center of the heat tape, gluing the carpet together.

If this is the case with your carpet seam, you need only to apply some hot glue from your glue gun where the carpet is coming apart. Then simply lay the carpet back in place. It's that easy, just be careful not to burn your fingers!

If there is a spot where a small section of carpet is missing, you can cut out the same size of carpet from an area that is not seen, such as inside a closet. You can then glue this small section of carpet in the area that is lacking.

While this is an easy, quite effective fix for minor carpet seam separations, you may want to consult a professional carpet installer for larger repairs.
